The letter Ha

The letter Ha is a part of the the Arabic alphabet. Here you will learn how to pronounce and write Ha.

How Ha is pronounced

The are two h letters in Arabic. A normal h and this Arabic H. For clarity, I write the pronunciation of this Arabic one with capital H.
If you are thirsty and take a sip of a refreshing beverage, you might breathe out with a sighing 'hhh'. That is the sound of this H. If you hold your hand in front of you mouth and pronounce this letter H, you should feel the puff of breath on your palm.
Wikander* desribes H as 'a sort of hissing, hoarse h sound that you produce by creating friction in the phraynx. One can percieve it as a common h that is pronounced in hoarsely in a hoarsely way'

In the phonetic alphabet, the pronunciation of Ha is written [ħ]. On this website, I write the pronunciation H.

Ha is a moon letter

You get the definite form of a word by putting the definite article al in front of it.

اَل

The Arabic letter Ha is a moon letter. That means that the definite article is pronounced al and nothing else. The letters that are not moon letters are called sun letters, and they are assimilated with the definite article al.

For example the Arabic word for field is pronounced Haql and written ﺣَﻘﻞ. In definite form, it is pronounced alHaql and written اَل‍ﺣَﻘﻞ.
